Nursery children join the rest of the school in the dinner hall for lunch and are familiar with the whole school routine for lunchtime in preparation for school.
Our team of experienced and friendly staff have a passion for working with children and forge excellent relationships with both children and parents. We devise exciting and engaging playful learning opportunities to suit the needs of all of our pupils and cover the seven areas of learning as set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework.
Our high expectations and desire to help all children to achieve their best, helps prepare our children for their next stage of education.
The clear structure of the day prepares children for their time in school. We start our day with children being greeted at the door by one of our staff members. Children then have the opportunity to play and explore inside the classroom before coming together to say good morning, daily counting, sing the days of the week song and talk through the timetable for the day.
During this morning transition time, children are supported to put away their belongings and to self-register.
Children are then able to take part in the activities in the classroom and in our garden area, where the children have lots of opportunities to choose what to play as well as be involved in directed activities.
We place great emphasis on the importance of snack times and lunchtimes, where the children are encouraged to have conversations with their friends and with the staff. We promote independence by allowing children to select drinks or food and serve themselves.
Throughout the day, we relish any opportunity to share stories with the children. Each day, the children will take part in circle time sessions with their key worker. During these sessions we have a phonics or maths focus. This small group teaching ensures we are able to support the children and identify any support they may need, which we can then target in the provision.
We end each session with a whole class syllables' session, singing and story.
Our Early Years curriculum aims to give children the breadth of knowledge and experience which will allow them to progress to the next phase of their education confidently, with the skills required to be successful. Planning is carefully sequenced to build on children’s prior knowledge and experiences and to give opportunities that deepen their understanding. The main topics we teach are:
|
Autumn 1 |
All About me |
|
Autumn 2 |
People who help us |
|
Spring 1 |
Once upon a time (traditional tales) |
|
Spring 2 |
Amazing Animals (explorers) |
|
Summer 1 |
Growing and changing |
|
Summer 2 |
Splash! (A day at the beach) |
Each half-term we host an enrichment day for all children to take part in and to celebrate the topic they have been learning.
These have included:
These are fun days when children are encouraged to dress up and immerse themselves in the activities that are planned. On these days, we sometimes have guest visitors or invite parents to come in and enjoy the fun with us.
